# Get cited by ChatGPT and Perplexity

Where ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI pull their answers from: lists, comparisons, review sites, Reddit. Measured, with the way in. We automate it.

## In short

- When ChatGPT or Perplexity names tools, it cites where it read about them. For our six test questions, 82 of 122 citations went to third-party pages, 38 to the vendors’ own sites and 2 to review sites.
- Those third-party pages were mostly comparisons, “best” lists and alternatives pages. Being on them is how you get named.
- Google’s first page looked different: Reddit was on it for 3 of the 4 questions we checked, yet neither engine cited Reddit once for these questions. What gets cited depends on the category, so we measure yours.
- We earn mentions the slow, honest way: real reviews, fair comparisons, real people in threads. Start with a free Growth Check.

## Find the pages that decide the answer

Every answer comes with its sources. Collect them across your 20 questions and the same few pages keep coming back. In our test two independent sites, soc2auditors.org and thesectorpost.com, were cited 5 and 4 times.

That short list is the target list. A page cited for six of your questions is worth more than twenty cited once.

## Lists and comparisons

A “best X for Y” list is written by a person, and most will look at a product that’s easy to judge: a clear pricing page, a trial or demo, someone who answers their questions. We send authors what they need, correct listings that are out of date, and never pay for a place in a list that doesn’t say it’s paid.

Google’s spam policies treat links bought for ranking as spam unless they’re marked rel="sponsored" or rel="nofollow". A sponsored placement can be fine. A hidden one isn’t.

## Review sites

G2 allows a small incentive for an honest review, labels it as incentivised, caps it at $100 and never ties it to what the review says. The FTC’s rule on fake reviews, in force since 21 October 2024, bans buying fake ones. We ask real customers at the right moment, inside both.

## Reddit, YouTube and Wikipedia

Reddit licenses its data to Google and to OpenAI. Across the 20 questions in our breakdown work, Reddit was in Google’s top 10 for 10 of them, Quora for 8 and LinkedIn for 8. In the SOC 2 test the AI engines skipped Reddit entirely, and Google’s AI Overview cited two YouTube videos for “Vanta vs Drata”. Each category has its own mix.

The rule in threads is plain: real people from your company, named as such, answering what was asked. Wikipedia is stricter: an article needs significant coverage in independent, reliable sources, and paid editors must disclose who pays them and are strongly discouraged from editing directly.

## Mistakes we see

- **Hidden paid placements.** They break readers’ trust when found, and paid links that pass ranking credit break Google’s rules.
- **Fake accounts in threads.** They get found and banned, and the thread then says worse things about you than silence would.
- **Chasing every site.** Most cited pages show up once. Work the ones that decide many answers.
- **Writing your own Wikipedia article.** Wikipedia strongly discourages it, and a deleted article is worse than none.

## What our AI does

- Collects every page ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google’s AI cite for your 20 questions, every week.
- Groups them by site and counts how often each one decides an answer.
- Checks which name you, which name rivals and which are out of date.
- Finds the threads and videos where your buyers ask about the category.

## What we do

- Contact the people behind the pages that matter, with what they need to judge you fairly.
- Ask your happy customers for reviews, inside G2’s rules and the FTC’s.
- Reply in threads as ourselves or as your team, named.
- Refuse fake reviews, hidden placements and sock-puppet accounts.

## The first four weeks

1. We collect every source the engines cite for your 20 questions and rank them by how many answers they decide.
2. We fix what you control: your review-site listings, your own comparison page, out-of-date facts about you.
3. Outreach to the authors of the most-cited pages, and a review ask to your customers.
4. We ask the questions again and show which sources changed and what that did to your share.

## The deal

Named in 5 of your 20 buyer questions by week 4, or you don’t pay the second half. $8,000 for four weeks, half to start. Then $4,000 a month, with a month’s notice to stop.

## Questions

### Do you pay for placements?

Only where the page says it’s sponsored, and we tell you first. Hidden paid links break Google’s spam policies and readers’ trust.

### Will you post on Reddit for us?

We’ll help your team take part as themselves, and reply as Ignura where that helps. We don’t run fake accounts.

### How many citations will we get?

We don’t sell placements by the dozen. We guarantee a share of answers, because that’s what buyers see: Named in 5 of your 20 buyer questions by week 4, or you don’t pay the second half.

### Can you get us a Wikipedia article?

Only if you already meet Wikipedia’s notability rule: significant coverage in reliable sources independent of you. If you do, we’ll help you propose it properly. If you don’t, we’ll say so.
