Questions
What size should an iOS app icon be?
Make one 1024 × 1024 px PNG. That is the App Store icon, and recent versions of Xcode can build every smaller size from it. If you fill the full icon set by hand, the main ones are 180 px for the iPhone home screen, 167 px for iPad Pro and 152 px for other iPads.
Should I round the corners myself?
No. Upload a full square. iOS and Google Play apply their own masks, and pre-rounded corners leave a thin edge of the wrong colour. Keep important detail away from the corners so the mask doesn’t clip it.
Why does App Store Connect reject my icon?
Usually because the PNG has an alpha channel. The App Store icon has to be opaque. This tool fills any transparent areas with your background colour and saves the iOS sizes without an alpha channel.
What does Google Play need?
A 512 × 512 px, 32-bit PNG, up to 1 MB, as a full square. Play adds the rounded mask and the shadow itself. Inside the app, Android uses launcher icons from 48 px (mdpi) to 192 px (xxxhdpi), plus adaptive icon layers on Android 8 and later.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Cropping, resizing and zipping happen in your browser tab. Close the tab and it is gone.
