App Store screenshot sizes in 2026: what Apple and Google Play actually require

the short version

  • The App Store needs one iPhone set at 1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556 px (portrait), plus a 2064 × 2752 or 2048 × 2732 px set if the app runs on iPad.
  • Google Play takes PNG or JPEG with each side between 320 and 3,840 px and the long side no more than twice the short side. 1080 × 1920 is the recommended portrait size, and every listing needs a 1024 × 500 feature graphic.
  • Correct pixels get you through review. The first three screenshots still have to sell the app.

For the App Store, you need one iPhone set at 1206 × 2622 px (or 1179 × 2556) in portrait, plus a 2064 × 2752 px (or 2048 × 2732) set if your app runs on iPad. For Google Play, you need at least two screenshots with each side between 320 and 3,840 px and the long side no more than twice the short side, plus a 1024 × 500 px feature graphic.

That’s the short answer. The rest of this post covers why those are the sizes, which other sizes are optional, and the mistakes that get uploads bounced. If you just want the files, the free screenshot sizer turns your images into every size at once, in your browser.

What Apple requires

Apple’s screenshot specifications list two required display sizes:

  • iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display): at least one screenshot. Accepted portrait sizes are 1206 × 2622 and 1179 × 2556. Apple’s page lists the models in this class, from the iPhone 14 Pro to the current Pro and standard iPhones.
  • iPad 13-inch display: at least one screenshot, but only if your app runs on iPad. Accepted portrait sizes are 2064 × 2752 and 2048 × 2732.

If your interface looks the same across devices, Apple scales your highest required resolution down for smaller screens. You don’t have to make a set for every phone.

The optional iPhone sizes

You can still upload tailored sets for other displays if you want them pixel-perfect:

DisplayPortrait size
Dynamic Island, large (Pro Max, Plus, iPhone Air)1320 × 2868, 1290 × 2796 or 1260 × 2736
Face ID, large (older Max and Plus models)1284 × 2778 or 1242 × 2688
Face ID, medium (iPhone 14, 13, 12 and others)1170 × 2532, 1125 × 2436 or 1080 × 2340
Home button, large (iPhone 8 Plus and earlier)1242 × 2208

Landscape swaps the numbers. Each device size takes between 1 and 10 screenshots per language.

One thing that trips people up: Apple won’t accept images with an alpha channel or transparency. Export as flat PNG or JPEG.

What Google Play requires

Google’s graphic assets guide is looser on exact pixels and stricter on shape:

  • JPEG or 24-bit PNG, no alpha
  • each side between 320 and 3,840 px
  • the long side no more than twice the short side
  • at least two screenshots to publish, and up to 8 per device type

So 1080 × 1920 (9:16) is the size to aim for, and 1080 × 2160 (exactly 2:1) is the tallest you can go. A full-screen capture from a modern Android phone at 1080 × 2340 is too tall and needs cropping or padding.

Google recommends at least four screenshots at 1080 px or more if you want to be eligible for its larger-format placements. Tablet and Chromebook screenshots sit between 1,080 and 7,680 px, at 9:16 or 16:9, with at least four. Every listing also needs a 1024 × 500 feature graphic, always landscape, with the important part kept towards the centre.

Fill or fit?

When you resize one design into several shapes, something has to give.

  • Fill covers the whole frame and crops the edges. It suits full-bleed designs where the edges are background.
  • Fit keeps the whole image and pads the gap with a background colour. It suits framed device mockups and text-heavy shots where cropping would cut a word in half.

The sizer lets you switch between the two and preview each size before downloading the zip. Nothing gets uploaded. Resizing happens in your browser tab.

Size gets you through review. The story gets the download.

Correct pixels are the floor. The first few screenshots are what people see in search results before they open your page, so they have to carry the pitch on their own: what the app does, who it’s for, and why it beats what they use now. We go through what makes a set work in the ten things we check in every screenshot set.

If you’re unsure whether your current set does that, the App Store listing grader checks how many screenshots you have alongside your title, subtitle and description.

FAQ

Do I need to upload every iPhone size?

No. One set at the medium Dynamic Island size (1206 × 2622 or 1179 × 2556) covers iPhone. Apple scales it for other devices.

Is 1290 × 2796 still accepted?

Yes, for the large Dynamic Island display (Pro Max and Plus). It’s optional, not required.

Why does Google Play reject my screenshot?

Usually because it’s taller than 2:1, has transparency, or one side is under 320 px or over 3,840 px.

Does the feature graphic need text?

Not by rule. Keep it simple, readable at small sizes, and keep key detail towards the centre, because Google may crop the edges.
