In short

Not a trick. Pages it can quote.

Gemini can ground answers in Google's Search index. Every week, our AI checks which pages it cites. You approve what changes.

A buyer asks Gemini a question. A page Google hasn't indexed is not in the Search index Gemini Apps can ground answers in.
  1. The question

  2. The index

If Google hasn't indexed your page, or no page answers the question, it names someone else.

  3. The sources

  4. The answer

What founders bring us: We log every source it cites for your questions. We check every key page. We check each Google control on its own. We put it in the first lines. We don't buy placements. We give AI referrals their own channel.

SEO for Google Gemini: how it finds sources

Google's crawler docs describe grounding in Gemini Apps as "providing content from the Google Search index to the model at prompt time to improve factuality and relevancy". So SEO for Google Gemini starts where Google SEO starts. Googlebot has to crawl your pages and Google has to index them. Then one of them has to be the clearest answer to the question.

Google-Extended is the setting founders mix up with Search. Google calls it "a standalone product token that web publishers can use to manage whether content Google crawls from their sites may be used for training future generations of Gemini models", and it also covers grounding in Gemini Apps. Google also says "Google-Extended does not impact a site's inclusion in Google Search nor is it used as a ranking signal in Google Search." Blocking it does not take you out of Google Search.

Gemini vs AI Overviews and AI Mode

AI Overviews and AI Mode are part of Google Search. Google's guide to AI features says AI is "built into Search and integral to how Search functions", so robots.txt rules for Googlebot are the control there, and nosnippet, data-nosnippet, max-snippet and noindex limit what Search shows. Google-Extended is the control for Gemini training and for grounding in Gemini Apps.

The Search side is on AI Overviews, and how to show up in Google AI Overviews has the steps to do it yourself. This page is about Gemini, when we do the work for you.

What we check first

  1. Indexing. Gemini Apps can ground answers in the Google Search index, so a page outside the index can't be part of that. We check that your key pages return 200 and are indexed. The free indexability checker checks one URL at a time.
  2. robots.txt for Googlebot and Google-Extended. We read both rules on every subdomain that serves pages buyers read. The Googlebot rule decides crawling for Search. The Google-Extended rule decides whether Google may use your content for Gemini training and grounding in Gemini Apps. The free AI crawler checker shows what your robots.txt allows today.
  3. Pages that read without JavaScript. We fetch your key pages as plain HTML and check that the answer is in the text, not only in a script. The wider list is on technical SEO.
  4. An answer in the first lines. For each buyer question we check whether one of your pages answers it near the top, in plain words, with the facts a reader would want to quote.

Whether to allow Google-Extended is your choice, and AI crawlers in robots.txt walks through it.

What we build

On your own site, we draft the pages your buyer questions need, such as a service page, a comparison or a docs page, each with the answer in its first lines. You approve each one before it goes live. Google says no special schema is needed for its AI features, and asks that structured data match the visible text, so we keep it plain and accurate. The schema markup checker shows what a page has today.

Google says you don't need llms.txt or Markdown for Google Search, so we don't sell them as a Gemini fix.

Off your site, our AI finds the pages Gemini cites for your buyer questions. We fix the listings you control first, then ask the authors of the rest to take a fair look at you. The work is the same as on citations, with Gemini's answers as the list to work from. For ChatGPT and Perplexity, see ChatGPT SEO and Perplexity SEO.

How we track it

We agree a fixed set of buyer questions with you and ask Gemini the same questions every week. For each answer we log whether you are named, which of your pages it uses and which other sources it cites. Answers vary between runs, so we read the trend across weeks, not a single answer. How to track AI visibility has the method, and the wider picture is on AI search.

What we won't do

We don't pay for placements, post fake Reddit threads, or buy reviews or links. We don't pay Google or publishers to list you.

How to start SEO for Google Gemini

Every engagement starts with a free Growth Check: we look at your indexing, your Google-Extended setting and how Gemini answers a few of your buyer questions today. If you sell to developers, devtools covers how the work fits your buyers. What the work costs is on pricing.

Questions

If I block Google-Extended, do I drop out of Google Search?

No. Google's crawler docs say "Google-Extended does not impact a site's inclusion in Google Search nor is it used as a ranking signal in Google Search." Googlebot and the snippet controls decide what Search shows, including AI Overviews and AI Mode.

If I block Google-Extended, can Gemini still cite me?

Google says Google-Extended manages whether content it crawls may be used for training Gemini models and for grounding in Gemini Apps. Google doesn't say more than that about citations, so we won't promise either way. If you want Gemini Apps to be able to ground answers in your pages, leave Google-Extended allowed.

Is SEO for Google Gemini different from Google SEO?

It starts with the same index: Googlebot has to crawl your pages and Google has to index them. The differences are the answer format, the extra Google-Extended control, and how you measure it, which is by asking Gemini your buyer questions and logging what it names and cites.

Does Gemini read llms.txt?

Google hasn't said it does. Its AI optimization guide says you don't need llms.txt, other AI text files or Markdown to appear in Google Search, including its generative AI features. We have found no statement about Gemini Apps either way, so we treat llms.txt as optional.

How soon will Gemini name us?

We won't give you a date. It depends on whether Google has indexed your pages, whether one of them answers the question better than the sources Gemini already uses, and how often those sources change. Indexing fixes come first, and the indexability checker shows where a page stands.
